报告简介:
Nowadays, as computing devices and the Internet become increasingly ubiquitous, Internet security becomes more and more important. Malware (short for malicious software) is software that deliberately fulfills the harmful intent of an attacker, such as trojans, botnets, and ransomware. It has been used as the major weapon by the cybercriminals to launch a wide range of security attacks that cause serious damages and significant financial losses to many Internet users. Malware attackers and defenders are engaged in a never-ending arms race. At each round, both the attackers and defenders analyze the vulnerabilities of each other, and develop their own optimal strategies to overcome the opponents. In this talk, I will first introduce the development of malware and anti-malware industry; then I will present the techniques currently used for the defense of malware attacks, especially in the cloud-based detection scheme. As each and every day techniques in artificial intelligence (AI) are changing our view of the world, the next war may be decided by AI. At the end of this talk, I will discuss the arms race between high-tech attacks and defenses in the AI age. The presented techniques are designed to be arms race capable, and can be used in other cybersecurity domains, such as anti-spam, fraud detection, etc.
报告人简介:
Dr. Yanfang (Fanny) Ye is currently an Assistant Professor in the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University. Before joining WVU, she was the Principal Scientist in Comodo Security Solutions, Inc. (2010~2013), and formerly the Deputy Director at Kingsoft Internet Security Corporation (2008~2010).
Her research areas mainly include cybersecurity, data mining, and machine learning. Dr. Ye has proposed and developed cloud-based solutions for mining big data in the area of Internet security, especially for malware detection, phishing fraud detection and adversarial machine learning. Her proposed techniques have enabled users to significantly reduce the time needed to detect new malicious software from the order of weeks to mere seconds, which have been incorporated into popular industrial products, including Comodo Internet Security and Kingsoft Antivirus that serve millions of users worldwide. Dr. Ye recently received multiple prestigious U.S. NSF Awards (2016-2021), the New Researcher of the Year Award (2016-2017) at WVU, the ACM SIGKDD 2017 Best Paper Award and ACM SIGKDD 2017 Best Student Paper Award (Applied Data Science Track), and the IEEE EISIC 2017 Best Paper Award.
